Casa Avalon: A Rural Escape in the Byron Shire

Casa Avalon: A Rural Escape in the Byron Shire

Casa Avalon feels like the kind of place you almost want to keep to yourself.

Tucked quietly between Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby, the cabin sits amongst rolling green hills where cows wander slowly through neighbouring paddocks and the afternoons seem to stretch a little longer than usual. It’s peaceful in that deeply exhaling kind of way. The sort of place that reminds you how good it feels to have nowhere urgent to be.

The House

Set on eleven peaceful acres between Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby, the timber-clad cabin feels deeply connected to the landscape around it. Large barn-style openings allow fresh air, birdsong and soft hinterland light to move freely through the space, creating an atmosphere that feels calm, grounded and beautifully unhurried.

Designed with simplicity in mind, the interiors balance warmth and restraint. French oak floors, linen bedding, vintage textures and natural materials create a sense of ease throughout the home, while the open-plan kitchen and living space encourage long meals, slow mornings and evenings spent gathered around the fire.

Every detail feels considered without being overly refined. The Spanish-inspired bathroom, finished in soft Venetian plaster, brings warmth and texture, while the outdoor fire and Parilla grill make the most of the surrounding landscape and open skies.

Although Byron Bay and the nearby beaches are only a short drive away, Casa Avalon offers its own quiet rhythm. One centred around morning light through open doors, afternoons that drift slowly into evening and the simple luxury of having nowhere else to be.

More than just a place to stay, Casa Avalon feels like an invitation to reconnect with slower living; gentle, understated and deeply restorative.
