A Life in Balance: Neridah Twist

A Life in Balance: Neridah Twist

There’s an ease to the way Neridah Twist speaks about her life that is thoughtful, grounded, and quietly assured. As a stylist, her work feels instinctive rather than overworked, shaped by a strong sense of self and an appreciation for what truly matters.

Living between New York and Australia, and always drawn back to the ocean, she moves through the world with a deep awareness of balance. Health, connection, and the small, everyday rituals that bring a sense of calm sit at the centre of it all.

This conversation gently moves beyond career, offering a glimpse into the values that shape her and a life informed by experience, gratitude, and a reminder that presence, humour, and rest are just as important as anything we strive for.

1. What is your current state of mind?
Energized, open, and content! This year I'm really focusing on what I have versus what I don't.

2. How do you switch off?
If I can leave the city and head east to the beach, that's my first pick. In the city, I love walking my dog, cooking a meal, and avoiding my phone.

3. What is the trait you most admire in others?
Being self aware and compassionate.

4. Which living person do you most admire?
I'm very grateful to be surrounded by amazing women who have lived through hardships, handled them with grace, and come out the other side motivated.

5. What is your greatest extravagance?
My health. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2019, feeling healthy is a privilege I'm deeply thankful for. I try not to take it for granted and prioritize the care that allows me to look after it.

6. What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
The minute our dog hears us stir, she jumps onto the bed and we have a family hug.

7. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Busyness. We tend to treat being busy as a badge of honor, when rest and balance matter just as much. I try to remember that we're not remembered for how much we worked, but for how we treated people and who we shared our lives with.

8. Do you have any daily rituals?
I drink a lot of water. I can't go without it.

9. What do you most like about your appearance?
That it's grown with me, but I'm still who I was as a child, if that makes sense. I'm also very grateful to have good skin and my general long-ness haha!

10. What does wellbeing mean to you?
Feeling good in your own skin. You can always compare your routine to someone else's, but what works for them may never work for you. Feeling confident in your mind, body, and soul. I think that’s true wellbeing.

11. What is the quality you most like in a person?
Humor and depth. I love people who have overcome life's hardships and are still able to make the most of their situation and laugh.

12. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
"Like” and “um” unfortunately.

13. What or who is the greatest love of your life?
My husband, my dog, and my nieces and nephew. My dog is a special one. She is my soul dog and picks up on my energy like no one else. We adopted her when she was two, and I find the timing so cosmic. She had to wait two years for us to find her.

14. When and where are you happiest?
By the ocean. I am a tropical baby through and through. I love living in NYC and the opportunities it brings, but I am forever happiest by tropical beaches.

15. Which talent would you most like to have?
Unwavering confidence!

16. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I'm really impatient. I sometimes forget to enjoy the ride when I'm constantly chasing the finish line. Being truly present would be such a gift.

17. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My ability to put blinders on while I was sick. Going through something like that forever changes your priorities and mindset. I'm a driven person with big career goals, but I'm able to differentiate what's real from what isn't and I'm really proud of that.

18. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
I want to live a really long, happy life with the people I love, so I don't want to think about this right now!!!

19. Where would you most like to live?
Having my life split across the world is something I really struggle with sometimes. It's a blessing and a curse to live away from family, but I've built such an intentional life here in NYC that I feel grateful to have so much love in both places. Maybe I'll end up in California, somewhere between Australia and New York.

20. What is your most treasured possession?
I have some special things collected from my grandparents travels that my grandad gave me. They remind me of home here in NYC.

21. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Comparison.

22. What is your favourite occupation?
Swimming!

23. What is your most marked characteristic?
I'm a true Capricorn: direct, impatient, caring, and reliable. I also think I'm pretty funny.

24. What do you most value in your friends?
Spontaneity, because I'm a creature of habit and need a little push, along with reliability and openness.

25. Who are your favourite writers?
I love so many, but two of my favourite books are Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and Any Ordinary Day by Leigh Sales.

28. Who are your heroes in real life?
My grandparents. They were such pillars in their community and raised so many children, not just their own two daughters, but anyone who came through their door. When my grandad passed away last year, it was incredible to see everyone who showed up at his funeral carrying such warm memories of them. I felt so honoured to be his granddaughter, and it truly changed my view of success.

29. What are your favourite names?
I love the name Sunday. It's my pup's name.

30. What brings pleasure to your day?
My little family and small luxuries: a fancy moisturizer or bath product, collected ceramics, fresh flowers, and boxed chocolates.

31. Do you have any products or objects you can't live without?
I can’t live without chapstick and really good bed linen.

32. Where is your favourite place to wake up in the world?
Definitely by a beach where you can feel the warmth the second you wake up. I really hate how much America uses air conditioning. I crave a ceiling fan and open window!

33. What is your motto?
"What is meant for me will always find its way." I've always trusted the universe and the path I'm on. My mum instilled that in us from a very young age.
