Il Delfino: A Coastal NSW Retreat with Timeless Charm

Nestled above Yamba’s picturesque Convent Beach, Il Delfino is more than just a destination—it’s an experience that captures the heart and imagination. This beautifully restored 1940s oceanfront inn seamlessly blends historical charm with contemporary elegance. Here, the gentle sound of the waves and the fresh ocean breeze provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether you're stepping into the sun-dappled courtyard or gazing out at the endless horizon from your private balcony with an espresso in hand, Il Delfino invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment. It's a place where the past meets the present, offering guests a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the authentic spirit of coastal living while enjoying the comforts of modern design.

Thoughtfully Designed Accommodations

Il Delfino’s accommodations are designed to offer a serene escape, with each suite providing a unique sense of a personal holiday home by the sea. The inn features four distinct suites—Cinque Terre, Ravello, Portofino, and Ischia—along with the private Scopello bungalow. Each suite is thoughtfully curated to reflect a blend of original beauty and contemporary design, inspired by both Italian seaside vacations and the Australian coastal lifestyle.

Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the Lido Terrace or unwinding in a cosy corner, the spaces are designed to make you feel at ease.

A Collaborative Restoration

Restoring Il Delfino was a labor of love, a collective dream brought to life by the hands and hearts of local tradesmen, artists, and cherished friends and family. This restoration journey was about honouring the cottage’s authentic Australian soul while weaving in the timeless elegance of Mediterranean design. Sheree Commerford, the creative force behind this transformation, drew inspiration from childhood memories by the ocean and family travels along the Mediterranean coast. Her vision has crafted a place where guests can feel the whispers of history and indulge in the embrace of modern comforts.

Adding another layer of beauty to Il Delfino is the artist-in-residence, Heidi Middleton. A close friend of the Il Delfino family, Heidi has transformed the inn into a living gallery. Her murals, woven throughout the suites and bungalow enhance the soul of the inn.
